Chelsea and Man United set to lock horns over the transfer of 26-year-old Serie A star man
Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly joined Premier League rivals Liverpool in the race to land Lazio centre-back Stefan de Vrij this summer.
Liverpool were linked with a move for the 26-year-old last summer after their approach for Virgil van Dijk broke down, Though they have since landed Van Dijk to the club during the January transfer window.
Anyway, Jurgen Klopp is still keen to reinforce his defensive options further and reportedly eyes De Vrij as not only an excellent target, however also a bargain.
De Vrij’s current deal ends at the conclusion of this season and, while the Dutch international is expected to secure an extension in the coming weeks, that new deal will reportedly include a £20m release clause.
Italian newspaper Il Messaggero suggests that United and Chelsea also consider that a good fee in the current market, though, and are likely to give competition for Liverpool when the window reopens.
De Vrij has played 27 games for Lazio across all tournaments this campaign, netting three goals.
