Chelsea are no longer interested in signing £53.75m defensive rock
Chelsea are declining to give up on signing Alex Sandro – even though he is close to agreeing on a deal extension at Juventus.
The West Londoners worked hard to sign the flying full-back during the summer. However, Serie A champions Juve managed to keep hold of him.
Now they are lining up favourable new terms for Sandro, who is still under deal until 2020.
However, he is set to pen an extension until 2022 which would reportedly involve an annual post-tax salary of around £4.5million.
Despite that, Corriere Dello Sport have suggested that Chelsea have not given up on luring Sandro to Stamford Bridge and may submit a formal offer in January.
It is believed they had a £53.75m offer rejected in the summer however they are set to up that in the New Year if Sandro decides against renewing his deal.
Meanwhile, European side Barcelona are reportedly interested in making a move for Chelsea and Spanish star Marcos Alonso in the January transfer window.
Spanish news outlet Don Balon stories that the La Liga side are looking to bring in a left-sided full-back in the new year and they think the Chelsea defender will be the perfect candidate.
The story according to the Spanish outlet suggests that signing Alonso will be a tough task for the Catalan side as the Premier League giants will be unwilling to sell him in January and he will also be unavailable to perform for them in the latter stages of the Champions League this campaign.
Since joining the West Londoners last summer, Alonso has been one of the most consistent footballers in the Premier League.
The Spaniard became an essential part of the Antonio Conte’s starting lineup last season, performing 37 games across all competitions and provided an attacking outlet from a defence, scoring with six goals and registering three assists.
Alonso’s displays last season was key to Chelsea wining their fifth Premier league trophy – the first major title of the 26-year-old career.
