Liverpool in stunning swoop for La Liga giants midfielder

Real Madrid ace Dani Ceballos is reportedly open to joining Liverpool.

The 21-year-old only moved to the Bernabeu last year from Real Betis in a £12m deal. However, he has struggled to make his mark.

Under head coach Zinedine Zidane this campaign, Ceballos has played 11 appearances in all tournaments, but only two of those outings have been La Liga starts.

As reported by the Diario Gol, the Reds had an interest in the player last summer and will look to renew their pursuit amid stories that Ceballos is keen to work under head coach Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have made one signing so far this month in the form of Virgil van Dijk from The Saints.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid were reportedly set to offer Liverpool £177m for midfielder Philippe Coutinho before he agreed to join their direct-rivals Barcelona.

Coutinho will finally his £146m move to the Camp Nou today, signing a five-and-a-half-year deal which will keep him at the club until 2023.

But, Mundo Deportivo suggests that Madrid were considering an audacious late offer to steal the deal for the South American, and were even set to offer Liverpool an extra £21m to beat Barca to his services.

It is unknown whether Madrid were serious about taking Coutinho to the Bernabeu, were looking to slow down the transfer process or were seeking to hike the price tag up even further for their arch-rivals.

Coutinho is only believed to have been interested in joining Barcelona, though, calling the move as a “dream come true”.

The 25-year-old spent five seasons at Anfield, netting 54 goals in 201 appearances for Liverpool during that time.
