19-year-old Chelsea forward reveals why he refused to join Bayern Munich
Callum Hudson-Odoi admits he was realy considering a move to Bundesliga giants last season but is certain he made the right decision to remain at Stamford Bridge. England international was strongly linked with a move to the Bayern Munich in winter and again in the summer, with bids turned down by Blues for the youngster.
Speculation rumbled on about Callum’s future, but he ended it when he signed a new deal in September, after having talks with new coach Frank Lampard. Hudson-Odoi committed his future to Chelsea until 2024, and while he admits that the potential move to German giants had him thinking, it was the right thing to do to remain at London club.
The 19-year-old winger’s frustrations came over a lack of playing time under the previous coach Maurizio Sarri, something that is not a problem under Frank. The new manager at Chelsea is focused on promoting the younger footballers in the squad, with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James all also benefiting from this policy.
English attacker will have no shortage of playing time this season as long as he performs well, while he will also have the opportunity to shine for the Three Lions this week as he is in the squad to take on Montenegro and Kosovo.
Callum has previously explained how much of an influence English legend had over his decision to remain, describing his return to the Blues as ‘perfect’ for him. ‘As soon as he came I thought ‘yep this is it’. I had a few chats with him and thought this is perfect, I want to stay here.’
