£250,000-a-week Man United injured winger will be fit for Liverpool game
Red Devils winger Anthony Martial is hopeful of recovering in time to face Liverpool on the weekend after resuming light training. France international has been out of action since Man United’s defeat to Crystal Palace in August with a thigh strain.
Red Devils initially expected Anthony to miss between two to three weeks of action, but his recovery has been slow, and Man United have paid the price in his absence, scoring just three times in five league games. However, Martial came through a training session unscathed on Tuesday and is on course to feature on the weekend.
The 23-year-old winger has been doing extra sessions over the international break in a desperate bid to come back, and his availability would be a huge boost for Norwegian manager. But French attacker’s return would by no means be the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s injury problems.
Like Martial, Luke Shaw has been absent since the defeat to Crystal Palace and the club expected the left-back to be fit for the weekend. However, Luke has not made the necessary progress following his hamstring strain and is now likely to miss out against Merseyside club.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in contention after recovering from illness, while Victor Lindelof has recovered from the back injury that prevented him from playing in the 1-0 defeat to Magpies ten days ago. Reds are bidding to match Man City’s Premier League record of winning 18 games on the bounce with a victory at the Old Trafford.
Liverpool have an eight-point lead at the top of the table, and Pep Guardiola will be hoping for a favour from Citizens arch-rivals.
