26-year-old midfielder talked about his failed transfer to Liverpool

Nabil Fekir has revealed that his former agent was responsible for failed transfer to Merseyside club. France international came close to joining Liverpool for £53m in the summer of 2018, but the Reds pulled out of the deal with the French club due to concerns over the playmaker’s knee.

Nabil required two operations on his right knee inside the space of a year due to a cruciate ligament rupture. But Fekir, who joined Real Betis in this transfer window, is adamant that the Merseyside club did not raise his previous knee injury during his medical at Clairefontaine.

‘Lots of lies were told, and they affected me,’ Nabil said. ‘Especially those told about my family. It hurt them and me. Especially when you know that’s what is shown is false. ‘What was said is not the truth. My knee is excellent, I had a quick medical check at Clairefontaine, my knee wasn’t even mentioned.

If my knee had been in such a bad state, would Jean Aulas have made? ‘But the fact thing is the idea that people could suggest that it’s because of my family that the transfer didn’t happen. It’s a lie. But you have to live with it. ‘You want the truth? Even I don’t know, I promise you! I did my medical and then decided not to sign me.

At some point, Reds wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee but an excuse needed to be found. ‘The medical tests that I did at Clairefontaine were visible, my knee is excellently, and I feel fine. There are no issues at all with my knee.
