£70,000-a-week centre-back set to pen new contract with Liverpool
Joel Matip decided to sign a new long-term contract with Liverpool during the summer transfer window. Cameroon international had an excellent season and proved his worth one more time. Dejan Lovren linked with Serie A clubs, and there is no time for losing one more defender.
Matip joined the Merseyside club from Schalke 04 in 2016 with a free deal. He is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and unchanged figure for the club. In this campaign, Joel played 31 matches, scored one goal and provided one assist in all competition.
It is an impressive result, and he can do much more during the next season. Cameroonian defender has contracted with the English club until 2020, and his release clause is nearly £25m. He is a regular member of the national team and also played in the 2014 Mundial which is already a great achievement for the centre-back.
Probably the 27-year-old footballer will accept the correct offer from the Reds about a new contract. Liverpool had a fantastic consequence in the Premier League as they finished the competition in second place. Merseyside club also won the Champions League final against Tottenham 2-0, and it is the first title for Jurgen Klopp.
Reds signed several players last summer like Fabinho from Monaco, Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City and Alisson Becker from Roma. English club heavily linked with Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala, Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, Sporting superstar Bruno Fernandes, Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, PSG footballer Adrien Rabiot and Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz.
