Arsenal agree personal terms with €20m-rated Ligue 1 defender
Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa has hinted at a move to London club after announcing he has joined a UK-based agency. Arsenal are in advanced talks over a deal to sign France international and hope to complete a move in the coming days. Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen the back-line during the transfer window.
Layvin is out of the deal at the end of the campaign, but it stays to be seen whether the London club can prise him away this month for a small fee or whether they will sign him on a pre-contract agreement that would see him arrive in the summer. The 27-year-old defender also named in the Les Bleus squad several times.
Nevertheless, a deal appears to be a formality and Kurzawa has dropped a fresh hint that he’s on his way to Arsenal. ‘Big news! I am very excited to join the Sports Invest UK family,’ he said. Gunners interest in the left-back stems from the fact that Kieran Tierney is not ready to come back to the first-team action until after the winter break.
The Scotland international joined the club from Celtic for £25m last summer, but he’s played only 11 games for the London club this term. Gunners started their match with Sheffield United with Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Bukayo Saka as full-backs with Arteta admitting he wants specialist defenders to play instead.
‘We are playing with full-backs that are not full-backs,’ Spanish boss said. ‘They are wingers or central midfielders and could we afford to lose full-backs? No, but we don’t have any full-backs.’
