Arsenal are desperate to sign €25m-rated Belgium international

Gunners and Spurs are in the hunt for Napoli striker Dries Mertens. Belgium international’s current deal with the Italian giants expires at the end of the campaign, and he is yet to agree on a fresh contract. Dries is currently in his seventh campaign at Napoli and is a key part of their attack with 116 goals for the Serie A club.

But Napoli risk losing Mertens next summer with several clubs lining up for his signature. Both Gunners and Spurs have registered their interest in signing the 32-year-old centre-forward. The report claims that both PL clubs have ‘taken information’ on Belgian striker ahead of a potential move.

But Juventus, Rossoneri and Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in signing Dries. Speaking about his future last month, he admitted he could leave the Italian giants at the end of the campaign. ‘I still don’t know what my future will be,’ Mertens said.

‘My objective right now is to have a perfect campaign with Napoli. Then we’ll see how things go. There’s still some time left until the end of the campaign. ‘Here in Italy, I still have seven months left on my deal. I don’t know where I’ll be playing the next campaign.

‘At the end of this season, I’ll assess whether to renew my deal or not, but it’s still too early. I’m not in a position to rule anything out.’ Mertens is a regular member of the national team line-up and also helped them to finish the 2018 Mundial in a third position.
