Arsenal determined to sign 26-year-old prolific Dutch forward
The London giants are reportedly the primary candidates to seal the transfer of Lyon attacker Memphis Depay as the Spanish manager makes him a target. The 26-year-old forward also supposedly being keen to leave Ligue 1 and come back to the Premier League.
The report adds that Les Gones could be set to sit down and discuss a deal once their participation in this campaign’s UCL is over. The Netherlands international struggled at Old Trafford earlier in his career but has since improved a great deal in his time at Lyon, who would ask for nearly £36m to let him go this summer.
The London giants are also being heavily linked with a move for Chelsea forward Willian, so it stays to be seen if they’ll feel they need to pursue another wide footballer.
Still, if a move for Willian doesn’t work out, a cheap deal for Memphis could be a very decent alternative for Arsenal, who could do with bringing in an upgrade on the likes of Mesut Ozil and Reiss Nelson in the playmaker department, while Nicolas Pepe has also had an inconsistent first campaign at the London club.
The Dutch forward has shown his quality in his time in France and it’s unsurprising to hear he wants to try his luck in England again. The London giants are leading the chase for the 26-year-old forward. As such, they are now ready to open negotiations over a deal.
The Les Gones are said to value the Dutchman at €40m but that’s a price Gunners are currently unwilling to meet. They feel the player should cost nearer the £25m mark given he’s coming off the back of an injury-ridden season.
