Arsenal facing the prospect of losing midfield duo to arch rivals

Arsenal duo Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny stay transfer targets for Premier League opponents West Ham United, according to a story.

The North Londoners manager Arsene Wenger has already opened the door for Coquelin to move on this month, sparking interest from Spanish club Valencia.

West Ham will reportedly have to pay up to £12m to sign the player, which manager David Moyes is said to be set to hand over as he is desperate for defensive-midfield cover.

Sky Sports News claims that Elneny is also an option for Moyes, with the Egyptian out of favour at the Emirates Stadium after playing just three Premier League starts this season.

Stoke City star Joe Allen is another rumoured candidate to reinforce the Hammers’ midfield ranks, while Steven N’Zonzi and William Carvalho are long-term targets.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has claimed that Arsenal are not close to signing any new footballers amid stories linking the team to Jonny Evans.

The West Bromwich Albion star was a rumoured target for Manchester City in the summer and has since been linked with many other top-flight sides, including the Gunners.

A report in The Sun claimed that the Northern Irishman is on the brink of a move to the Emirates Stadium. However, Wenger has rejected that such a move is about to happen.

“No, I cannot give you any news on any transfer because we are not close to signing anybody,” –

“We signed a Greek boy [Konstantinos Mavropanos] who looks quite good in training but apart from that, we have not done anything. Will we be out there to do something? Yes we will.” – the Frenchman said in his press conference after Arsenal lost 4-2 at Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup.

Evans, who has played 19 Premier League appearances this season, is under contract at The Hawthorns until the end of next campaign.
