Arsenal held negotiations with €35m-rated La Liga attacker
Gunners and Red Devils are reportedly among the clubs interested in sealing the transfer of Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez this summer. The 28-year-old attacker stays a big name with many natural talents, but it’s fair to say his career has gone rather downhill in recent times.
Still, James’ clearly not short of suitors this summer as a host of PL clubs are considering moves for him as the Los Blancos slash his asking price to nearly £23m. Among those named are Gunners and Red Devils, who could certainly both benefit from adding a top creative footballer after disappointing displays this campaign.
Rodriguez would no doubt bolster those clubs if he gets back to his best, with Red Devils looking in need of a playmaker to perhaps provide an upgrade on the inconsistent Paul Pogba. Everton and Wolves are also named as suitors, while Juventus and Napoli are said to have cooled their interest in Colombia international.
Gunners, meanwhile, would do well to sign a replacement for the struggling Mesut Ozil, who is surely now past his best and seemingly no longer a big part of the Spanish manager’s plans. The Colombian star would be a risky signing, but he’s now available for as little as £22.5m, clubs will probably be tempted.
James was close to a £40m move to Atletico Madrid a year ago until Real Madrid pulled out of a deal with their neighbours at the last minute. That might be a stumbling block for the London giants, however.
