Arsenal in bidding war for €55m-rated technically gifted forward
London club currently have no permanent coach in place but are reportedly making plans for the winter transfer window. Gunners missed out on signing Ivory Coast international in the summer, and ultimately went for Nicolas Pepe to bolster their front-line.
It was expected that Nicolas’ arrival at Emirates would end Arsenal’s links with Wilfried. However, the latest reports suggest that the Eagles flyer is back on Gunners’ wishlist for the new year. Nicolas has started slowly at the Emirates Stadium, with Gunners currently sat in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
There is a realisation that some new faces could be needed to spark the side into life, and Wilfried is once again said to be a target. In the summer the Daily Mail claimed that Wilfried was desperate to sign for Gunners and ‘pleaded’ with the Eagles to let him move across London.
However, no agreement was reached between the two sides after Palace put an £80m price-tag on the forward’s head, and Wilfried has stayed at Selhurst Park, where he has continued to impress. Zaha has an excellent season as he already played 17 matches, scored two goals and provided two assists in all tournaments.
If Ivorian attacker was brought to Gunners, he would add skill and pace to their front-line, but there would have to be question marks over whether spending big on another winger would be wise, given their defensive issues this term. Wilfried is a key figure for the national team squad and also played in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
