Arsenal in pole position to sign No.10 South American winger

Chelsea forward Willian has told close pals that he’s rejected a big-money offer from Inter Miami because he wants to join the Gunners. The 31-year-old winger is out of the deal at Chelsea and the club are yet to offer him the three-year contract he craves.

Borges has received several offers across the world, including a lucrative one from David Beckham’s Inter Miami. However, Brazil international has told close friends that he’s turned down a pay rise to move to Florida because he wants to join Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.

Arsenal are set to give the Brazilian winger a three-year contract on wages of £120,000-a-week, though the forward has asked for the option of a fourth year. Willian’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, has good relations with Arsenal and is brokering the deal for the forward’s move across London.

Once Borges is through the door, Gunners will focus their efforts on signing Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian midfielder has a £45m release clause in his deal but Gunners are unwilling to activate it, as they’d prefer to agree a lower price and to include Matteo Guendouzi in a deal.

Thomas Partey is keen on a move to London but Atletico Madrid are desperate for him to sign a new deal in order to remove the release clause in his deal. Borges is settled in London and doesn’t want to uproot his young family, which has played into Gunners hands.

The Brazilian winger ticks several boxes, most notably that he would be an experienced head in an otherwise young and, at times this season, naive team and can help those teenagers develop and fulfil their potential.
