Arsenal interested in signing €45m-rated Ligue 1 forward
Lyon star Memphis Depay is reportedly being lined up as a possible replacement for Gunners striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, should they depart from Arsenal. Arsenal centre-forwards are both facing uncertain futures at the Emirates, with Auba’s deal due to expire in 2021 and Alexandre’s only a year later.
The Gabonese striker is being chased by several top European giants including Barcelona, PSG and Inter Milan after another fantastic campaign, scoring 17 PL goals.
Meanwhile, France international has struggled for goals and been regularly replaced in the side by 21-year-old Eddie Nketiah, prompting speculation that the 28-year-old centre-forward could also leave the London club this summer.
The problem for Gunners would probably be finding a way to afford the transfer fee and his wages, but it’s easy to see him being a great fit at the London club if the could make it happen.
And should one, or both centre-forwards go, Mikel Arteta is keen on ex-Red Devils forward Depay to come in as a replacement. The Netherlands international struggled to make an impact during his two-year spell at Theatre of Dreams but has had a resurgence in form in Ligue 1.
Memphis’ deal is due to expire next summer and the report states that he is looking elsewhere, with a come back to the PL a possible option. Mikel Arteta is believed to rate the technical ability and personality of Depay.
Arsenal and Aubameyang have been locked in deal negotiations for months, with no resolution yet to be found. And speaking before Gunners Premier League clash with Norwich City on Wednesday, the Spanish manager admitted he had ‘no updates’ on the situation.
