Arsenal keep a close eye on €20m-rated talented French striker
The London club are reportedly facing paying as much as £50m to seal the transfer of Celtic centre-forward Odsonne Edouard. U21 France international has been linked with Arsenal, as coach Mikel Arteta is eager to sign him to bolster his front-line regardless of what happens with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
That report suggests Odsonne would cost nearly £30m, but the Celtic striker claim the Hoops are likely to demand a great deal more than that. It could be that that kind of money will look very acceptable soon, but for now, it perhaps looks a bit of a gamble on a footballer yet to test himself in a more competitive league.
Gunners supporters will no doubt hope for some signings this summer, or whenever possible, with this campaign proving a tough one for the Gunners. Edouard is very adept at performing these tasks, and you would expect him to fit into a London club operation now managed by Pep Guardiola’s former assistant, Mikel Arteta.
Arguably, Odsonne would perhaps be better suited to this system than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. If the campaign can resume once the coronavirus crisis calms down later in the year, one imagines Arsenal are in with a decent shout of getting fourth or fifth place, but it won’t be easy, and a club of this size will want to be aiming for more than that.
Serie A clubs Roma, Lazio and Napoli were joined by Borussia Dortmund and Lyon to cast their eye over the 22-year-old centre-forward last October as he netted a hat-trick for France’s U21s in their 5-3 victory against Slovakia.
