Arsenal keeping tabs with €25m-rated La Liga centre-back

The London club are in the battle to sign Getafe defender Djene Dakonam, according to reports. Arsenal are keen to bolster their back-line in the winter transfer window with Mikel Arteta looking to recruit a new centre-back following Calum Chambers’ season-ending injury. Djene is one of the best centre-backs in La Liga this campaign.

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng and RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano have both been linked this month. But Arsenal are also interested in signing Djene. The report claims that Spurs, Everton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are also keeping tabs on Dakonam ahead of a possible move.

Togo international has been on Gunners radar for at least a year as Unai Emery, who was sacked by the London club in November, scouted the centre-back in action for Getafe last campaign. The 28-year-old centre-back, whose deal expires in 2023, is also capable of playing at right-back.

Meanwhile, the London club have also held negotiations over a deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa. The 27-year-old’s deal with PSG expires at the end of the campaign and Arsenal are looking to complete a cut-price deal in winter. Gunners also linked with Napoli centre-forward Dries Mertens.

Arsenal have terrible results in the Premier League this season as they are in a 10th place in the table. The London club signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano, Nicolas Pepe from Lille, David Luiz from Chelsea, Kieran Tierney from Celtic and Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid.
