Arsenal keeping tabs with €25m-rated Serie A centre-back

Gunners are targeting a move for Red Devils on-loan defender Chris Smalling, according to reports. The 30-year-old centre-back left Man United in the summer following the arrival of Harry Maguire and joined Roma on a season-long loan.

Chris has impressed during his first few months in Italy, and the Serie A club are already keen to make a move permanent. But Smalling has attracted interest from Gunners, with the London club continually monitoring his progress in Serie A.

The report claims that Man United are open to selling Chris but are demanding £18m for the defender. It’s also claimed that Toffees and Leicester City are keeping tabs on his performances at Roma in preparation for a potential move at the end of the campaign.

Speaking about his displays at Roma, Solskjaer said earlier this week: ‘Chris has been excellent. We know sometimes if you change the environment, it can go both ways. ‘But Chris is the type to relish these challenges he’s cultured, enjoys life down there, it’s a new experience for him.

‘He’s a player who couldn’t be here without being a regular and we’re so happy for him because we can see the top footballer he is.’ Arsenals have terrible consequences in the Premier League this campaign as they are in an 11th place in the table.

London club added several players during the summer transfer window like Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano, David Luiz from Chelsea, Nicolas Pepe from Lille, Kieran Tierney from Celtic, William Saliba from Saint-Étienne and Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid with a season-long loan deal.
