Arsenal manager impressed with €30m-rated star performances

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta says Granit Xhaka has confirmed he will stay at the Emirates, with the Spanish coach delighted to be able to count on a ‘great football player’ for the foreseeable future.

Switzerland international’s agent claimed he had agreed on a deal to return to the Bundesliga, having clashed with fans at Arsenal, been stripped of the captaincy and exiled from the team by ex-manager Unai Emery.

But Mikel Arteta has given every footballer a clean slate and started Granit in two of his three matches in charge only missing the Chelsea clash due to illness.

Spaniard revealed he has sat down with Xhaka to discuss his future and has convinced him to stay in London club, believing that the 27-year-old midfielder is a key part of his project at the club.

After Granit’s solid showing in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Man United, Arteta said of the midfielder’s future: ‘Xhaka? I think he’s going to stay, yes.’ Pressed on whether he had spoken to him about his future, and whether Granit had given assurances that he would stay, Arteta confirmed: ‘He did yes.’

On Swiss midfielder’s display against Red Devils, he continued: ‘Very good. I like him. I think the way we want to play, we get him on board, he can be a many footballers for the team.’

Expanding on what he likes so much about Granit, he explained: ‘It’s everything, it’s his commitment. I like the way Xhaka is, the way he lives his profession, the way he trains, how focused he is.
