Arsenal offering new contract to 20-year-old French midfielder

Arsenal want Matteo Guendouzi to sign a new five-year contract at the club after an impressive debut season at Emirates.

The midfielder moved to the north London club from Lorient in a deal worth around £7.2 million last summer, but he is valued at over £30 million now following a strong first season with the Premier League giants.

Unai Emery was an admirer of the 20-year-old as the youngster came through Paris Saint-Germain’s academy when the Spanish boss was in France.

Matteo Guendouzi signed a four-year contract worth around £40,000-a-week last summer, but the English club want him to sign a deal until 2024.

The Frenchman stands almost to double his pay should he opt to sign the deal as Arsenal are willing to offer around £70,000-a-week deal to keep him at the club, per the Daily Mail.

Matteo Guendouzi’s current contract runs until 2022, so the club are under no pressure for him to sign an extension any time soon.

However, Arsenal are keen to avoid mistakes of the past in which Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey have been allowed to run their contracts down which resulted in the German playmaker getting a £350,000-a-week deal while the Welsh midfielder left for free for Juventus.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery is keen selling Shkodran Mustafi and Matteo Guendouzi before the summer transfer deadline on September 2 and wants to raise funds for the January transfer window with the Spaniard keen on bolstering middle of the park.
