Arsenal planning to offer new contract to €50m-rated midfielder

Gunners are preparing to sit down with highly-rated midfielder Matteo Guendouzi over an improved deal to keep him at the London club. France international was a near ever-present under ex-coach Unai Emery and has continued to get minutes under new manager Mikel Arteta. Matteo also named in the Les Bleus squad several times.

Arsenal are planning to discuss terms with Matteo at the end of the campaign. He is currently on the £40,000-a-week deal offered when he joined from French second division club FC Lorient in 2018. Arsenal are willing to propose a substantially increased wage in line with Guendouzi’s senior role in the squad.

Since being brought in for only £8m by former Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, the 20-year-old star has played over 54 league games. The French midfielder’s deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2022, but a higher salary may convince him to commit his future to the Emirates.

The former Paris Saint-Germain academy footballer has been the subject of interest from the French champions since his move to Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s side have been accused of letting footballers run down their deal and leave for free, such as Welshman Aaron Ramsey who joined Serie A side Juventus last campaign.

Arsenal have terrible consequences in the Premier League this campaign as they are in a 10th place in the table. The London club signed several players during the summer transfer window like Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano, Nicolas Pepe from Lille, Kieran Tierney from Celtic, David Luiz from Chelsea and William Saliba from Saint-Étienne.
