Arsenal started negotiations with 30-year-old English defender
London club are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Chris Smalling next summer. Red Devils loaned the 30-year-old centre-back to Roma this summer, and he has become a regular under Paulo Fonseca. He has played 14 matches for the Giallorossi this campaign so far, scoring twice while providing an assist.
Gunners are interested in signing Chris who is valued at £18m by Man United. This report also suggests that other clubs interested in him are Everton and Leicester City. The Arsenal have looked pretty shaky at the back-line this campaign and need defensive reinforcements.
Smalling has been doing well at Roma, and he could be a suitable addition for Gunners. With William Saliba joining next summer, the two could form a decent pairing at the heart of the defence. However, given the England international’s current displays, the Giallorossi may also try to add him permanently after his loan spell ends.
Chris joined Man United from Fulham in 2010 with an €8m deal. He was an unchanged figure for the Red Devils, but after Harry Maguire arrived at Old Trafford, he became a bench player. Smalling has fantastic performances in Serie A as he already played 14 matches, scored two goals and provided one assist in all tournaments.
It is an impressive result, and he can improve his consequences during this season. The English defender also played regularly in the Three Lions squad over the years which is already a big achievement for the footballer. Arsenal ready to spend considerable money on the centre-back during the summer transfer window.
