Arsenal started negotiations with €20m-rated Brazilian rising star

Athletico Paranaense president Mario Celso Petraglia has confirmed that Gunners are interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes. Reports last month claimed that Gunners and Chelsea are battling it out to sign U23 Brazil international and scouts have been deployed to Brazil to watch the midfielder in action.

Both London teams are on the lookout for midfield reinforcements, and the feedback they have received on Bruno has been extremely positive. However, the Premier League clubs will have to see off competition from Benfica for Guimaraes.

Athletico Paranaense boss Petraglia has revealed that the club received an offer from Benfica for the 22-year-old midfielder over the weekend. ‘Yes, it’s true. Yesterday came the official offer from Liga NOS giants to add Bruno Guimaraes,’ Petraglia said. ‘Let’s study Benfica’s offer.

On Monday, we will meet the team board to assess this situation. While Gunners are yet to lodge a bid for the Brazilian midfielder, Petraglia believes Arsenal could make an offer for the footballer ahead of the summer transfer window. ‘Gunners are interested, but will only make an offer towards the end of the season,’ he added.

It’s understood London club are prioritising a move for a central defender this winter after Calum Chambers was ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a severe knee injury.

Spanish boss has confirmed that he’s keen to bolster his back-line and Boateng, Upamecano and Nathan Ake have all been linked in recent weeks. ‘My obligation is to give my opinion on the things we can improve,’ the Spanish manager said earlier this month.
