Arsenal still want to sign 20-year-old technically gifted midfielder
Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo was a wanted man in the transfer window, and Arsenal were fairly keen for his signature in the summer Gunners are hoping to convince him to move to the London.
Italy international burst onto the scene last campaign, making 36 appearances in what was a tough campaign Giallorossi. They finished sixth on the table, which disqualifies them from playing in the Champions League.
Nicolo scored six goals and two assists, but he stood out like a sore thumb whenever he played. Zaniolo’s had an exciting trajectory, having joined Roma from Inter Milan. He never played for the Nerazzurri first-team, amid being signed in the 2017/18 summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old playmaker played for Inter’s Serie B team and finished as their top scorer with 13 goals. However, that didn’t stop Inter from selling him to rivals Giallorossi. The Italian midfielder is a flair player, who likes to occupy the front-line of the midfield and float around like a number 10.
Nicolo is different from a lot of flair footballers because of his massive frame. He stands at 6 feet and 3 inches, which is why it’s tough to knock the ball off of him.
Quite similar to Gunners Mesut Ozil, Zaniolo could not be a perfect replacement for Germany international. He often wanders into spaces and cuts inside with his left foot to keep the football ticking.
Italian star also has the physicality that Mesut lacks and loves to win a tackle or two. Furthermore, he’ll also have the energy to play an intense pressing system and the versatility to play in several tactical systems.
