Atletico Madrid started talks with £185,000-a-week Arsenal striker
Atletico Madrid will reportedly target Gunners centre-forward Alexandre Lacazette provided they are unable to sign Edinson Cavani. Currently valued at €70m, France international has amassed 42 goals and 20 assists in 108 games across all tournaments for the London club since joining them from Lyon.
This campaign, Alexandre has featured in 20 games for Gunners so far, scoring six goals and providing two assists. La Liga giants have identified Lacazette and Paco Alcacer provided they are unable to sign Cavani. Diego Simeone’s side need some attacking reinforcements, and the 28-year-old striker would be a solid signing to their front-line.
However, there’s little doubt that Gunners would like to keep the French star who is one of their most vital players. If there is any interest from Atleti, Arsenal might slap a hefty price-tag on him to ward off any suitors. If Gunners are to stand a chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, Lacazette will be needed to be at his very best.
The Argentine manager wants to strengthen the front-line during the January transfer window. Atletico Madrid have excellent consequences in the La Liga this campaign as they are in a third place in the table. Diego Simeone’s side lost the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid and missed a chance to win the first title in this season.
Los Rojiblancos signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Joao Felix from Benfica, Alvaro Morata from Chelsea, Hector Herrera from Porto, Marcos Llorente from Real Madrid, Felipe from Porto, Mario Hermoso from Espanyol, Kieran Trippier from Tottenham and Renan Lodi from Athletico Paranaense.
