Barcelona keep a close eye on €70m-rated Arsenal centre-forward

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will turn 31 next year, so it’s reasonable to suggest he only has two or three seasons left at the top level. It’s starting to look like he would rather spend those at an elite team rather than battling for the UEL spot with the London club.

He’s decided to postpone negotiations over a new deal at London club for now. That should cause huge concern for Arsenal supporters because his deal will expire in 2021. That also means he could leave for free in 18 months if an agreement isn’t reached.

The story goes on to suggest one of the main reasons for this is potential interest from Barcelona. Pierre-Emerick is waiting to find out how much interest there is from the Catalan club before making any decision on signing a new contract.

If Aubameyang does commit to a new contract, it will make a move to La Liga more unlikely, so the 30-year-old striker knows Gunners may be forced to cash in if he makes it clear that he doesn’t want to stay. Gunners are in real danger of losing their star footballer for nothing and then having to find a cheap replacement.

It’s just another example of the London club sleepwalking into a disaster on and off the pitch. It’s never advisable to let a Gabonese centre-forward go into the last couple of years of their contract without having a new one lined up. If they want to leave, then you can cash in and sign a replacement.
