Barcelona leading the race to sign £120,000-a-week Chelsea attacker

London club forward Willian is reportedly desperate to do what it takes to get a dream transfer to Barcelona as he nears the end of his deal. The 31-year-old winger has also been linked with Juventus, but it may be that his preference is for a move to Spain before the end of his career.

Blues are hoping to offer him a new one-year deal, though Blaugrana could come in with a longer deal as he edges closer to becoming a free agent. Interest from the Catalan club is by no means certain, however, as Lionel Messi is not at all keen on this potential signing.

The Spanish club have several young footballers who could do a job in Willian’s position, so it might not be too sensible to bring in a player who will turn 32 next campaign. Still, Brazil international stays a key figure for the London club, and it is little surprise that they want to offer him a contract extension.

It is a big worry, however, that Brazilian forward has his heart ready on playing for La Liga giants at some point in his career. Having lost Eden Hazard to Real Madrid in the summer, Chelsea could do without another big name heading for La Liga.

Barcelona started this season fantastically as they are leading the La Liga table. Blaugrana signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, Frenkie de Jong from Ajax, Neto from Valencia and Junior Firpo from Real Betis.
