Chelsea agreed personal terms with 21-year-old German attacker
Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan says Blues transfer target Kai Havertz is ‘even better’ than Michael Ballack in terms of ability. Chelsea have moved quickly in the transfer market, already sealing the additions of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, while their business is unlikely to end there.
Kai is next on their priority list after a fantastic campaign for Bayer Leverkusen in which he registered 12 Bundesliga goals and six assists. Havertz is reportedly keen on the move, but the two teams are yet to come to an agreement over a transfer fee, with Bayer Leverkusen standing firm in their £91m valuation of the footballer.
Michael spent four years at Chelsea, accruing a PL title, two FA Cups and a League Cup. However, Gundogan insists that Germany international is superior to his compatriot talent-wise.
‘In my opinion, Havertz is even better than Ballack in terms of his playing ability,’ Ilkay said. ‘Ballack had a certain level of aggression in his game and a strong mentality. ‘He was a top player of the previous generation a b*****d on the pitch, in a positive sense. Kai isn’t like that.’
The 21-year-old attacker will be in action again on Thursday evening when the German outfit takes on Rangers in the second leg of their last-16 UEL tie. When quizzed about Kai’s mindset going into the game, Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz said: ‘Yes, he will play and yes I’m convinced he’s 100 per cent still fighting for Leverkusen.’
