Chelsea chief blocked £40m midfielder’s move to Monaco

Tiemoue Bakayoko’s return to Monaco is on hold after Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia blocked a move to the Ligue 1 club.

The Blues are looking to get the Frenchman off the books but want to loan him out again this season.

The long-term plan, however, is to recoup the most of the £40 million they paid to sign the midfielder and Marina Granovskaia is concerned that Monaco are not a big enough club to showcase his value.

Tiemoue Bakayoko enjoyed a decent spell away from the Bridge at San Siro last campaign but a falling out with former manager Gennaro Gattuso ensured he would not return to the Italian giants.

AS Monaco – who are also in the race to sign Southampton ace Mario Lemina – remain hopeful they can sign the 25-year-old Chelsea flop, whose representatives are unhappy with the decision taken by the chief of the Premier League club.

They feel the Europa League winners should give the move the green light as Tiemoue Bakayoko does not feature in Frank Lampard’s plans and he is desperate for playing time.

A deal could be resurrected if no other suitors are found, but the English giants are holding out for a more high-profile side to move for him.

It remains to be seen what decision Chelsea will make at the end of the transfer window as there may be other interested parties who would like to sign the France international, who more or less restored his reputation in Italy.
