Chelsea face battle to keep hold of 20-year-old England youth international
Conor Gallaher could reportedly be the latest British talent to head to the Bundesliga.
The 20-year-old Chelsea midfielder has been watched by a whole number of German clubs keen to take him on loan next campaign.
Schalke head the list of those keen, which also includes Mainz and Bundesliga 2 side Arminia.
Gallagher has impressed this campaign while being farmed out to Charlton and then Swansea.
The England youth international hit six goals for the Addicks in the first half of the season.
He switched in January to the Liberty Stadium where Conor played a key role in the Swans’ play-off push, which was ended by Brentford in the semi-final last week.
Frank Lampard is a big fan of Conor, who won the Blues’ academy player of the season in 2019.
The Blues manager may want to include Gallagher in his senior team plans next term and continue his trait of giving youngsters a chance.
But if Frank does decide to farm out the Epsom lad again, among Conor’s options will be the chance to follow the likes of Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho to the Bundesliga.
Gallagher is yet to make a senior team appearance for Chelsea, although he was an unused substitute in last term’s Europa League final.
Meanwhile, Southampton are allegedly at the head of the queue to sign Schalke 04 star and Chelsea target Weston McKennie during this summer’s transfer window.
The 21-year-old midfielder still has four years left to run on his deal with his German club, but a recent report claimed that he was interested in a move ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are all siad to be admirers of the USA international but Southampton are in driving seat to sign the player.
