Chelsea in advanced talks with 23-year-old La Liga left-back
Sergio Reguilon is keen to join the London giants after the club held advanced negotiations to sign the Los Blancos left-back, according to reports. Blues boss wants to sign a new defender this summer but the club have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Ben Chilwell as Foxes are standing firm over their £80m asking prices.
The London giants have been exploring alternatives and Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico and Atalanta’s Robin Gosens are other possible options. But the London giants are now favourites to land Spain international and talks for the defender are now at an ‘advanced stage’.
The report also claims that Sergio has the option of remaining with Sevilla but the left-back is keen to make the move to the PL. Blues are now in talks with the Los Blancos to determine whether the deal will be a season-long loan or a permanent transfer in the region of €25m.
The Spanish defender joined Sevilla on loan from the Los Blancos last summer and has impressed this campaign as he helped the club finish fourth in La Liga.
Frank Lampard, meanwhile, admitted after Blues FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal on Saturday that he is concerned by several individual errors made by his defenders this campaign. ‘The numbers do not lie,’ said Frank Lampard.
‘We are trying to play a certain way. I know that teams who are now at the top of the game, Liverpool and Man City, have been through similar periods I am not saying we will get to their level in the early stages when their manager was at the club of conceding too much.’
