Chelsea in pole position to sign 24-year-old Dutch centre-back
London club are reportedly keen on taking Nathan Ake back to Stamford Bridge from Bournemouth and could land him for much less than his touted valuation.
The Netherlands international came through the youth ranks at Chelsea after joining the club in 2011, but he was limited to only 17 appearances for the senior side having been sent out on a string of loan deals. Nathan is a regular member of the national team squad.
Ultimately, his stint at London club ended in 2017 after he sealed a permanent move to Dean Court, where he has established himself as a first-team regular and has played 75 games over the past two campaigns under Eddie Howe. Blues could make a move for Ake and can sign him for £40m as part of their agreement with the Cherries.
It’s added that Nathan was given a £75m price-tag this transfer window as Leicester City were linked with a swoop for the 24-year-old defender to replace Harry Maguire, and so it would represent somewhat of a bargain for Chelsea if they could land him for such a reduced price.
If they do receive the green light, then Dutch centre-back could be a sensible signing to English coach’s squad, bearing in mind David Luiz’s exit this week to join the Gunners.
That leaves Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma as Frank’s top options in the back-line, along with teenager Fikayo Tomori, but whether that’s enough to compete in multiple competitions at the highest level is up for debate.
