Chelsea in pole position to sign 28-year-old Serie A midfielder
London club are reportedly looking ready to pay the £23m required to seal the transfer of Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino this summer. A report from the Daily Express strongly suggests Chelsea are ready to complete the agreement, amid interest from Premier League rivals Everton.
Blues boss Frank Lampard could do with more experience in his squad, with this youthful side proving inconsistent in this challenging first campaign in charge for the former Derby County coach. Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is set to let Uruguay international go, so it seems like this shouldn’t be too tricky a deal for the Blues to get done.
The English tactician will now hope someone like Matias can add a bit more know-how to his London club squad next campaign, with the midfielder having had a long and successful career in Serie A with both Inter and Fiorentina, as well as loan spells at Cagliari and Empoli.
It certainly seems like the Blues aren’t messing around ahead of the summer, having already agreed on a deal for Ajax forward Hakim Ziyech, as they announced on their official site earlier this week. Chelsea have excellent consequences in the Premier League this campaign as they are in a fourth place in the table.
London club signed Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid and Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund recently. Blues heavily linked with Lyon centre-forward Moussa Dembele, Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho, Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga, Real Madrid attacker Isco and Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana.
