Chelsea in the battle to sign €25m-rated Norway international
There is set to be a stiff contest for the signature of Genk midfielder Sander Berge with Chelsea joining Liverpool and Napoli in the battle to sign the footballer. Norway international has impressed in the midfield for the Belgian giants and national team over the last two years, becoming a regular starter for club and country.
Sander played with both Liverpool and Napoli in the Champions League this campaign and did enough to catch the eye of both the English and Italian teams. London club are also very interested in Berge and are keeping track of any change in his situation at the Belgian club.
Chelsea are still under a transfer ban and are currently not able to sign footballers in winter, but this could change after a Court Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday as the Blues appeal for the ban to be lifted. The 21-year-old player only has 18 months left on his deal and is expected to leave the Belgian club in one of the next two transfer windows.
If Blues are not successful in having their ban lifted then Reds or Napoli could steal a march on them and snap up the Norwegian midfielder in winter. Sander has given Liverpool something of a head start in the battle to sign him by saying that he would like to play at Anfield ‘as often as possible.’
‘Playing at Anfield is a dream for everyone in the world, and not least for Norwegians,’ Berge said. Genk technical director Dimitri De Conde has been open about the interest in his footballer but says he would rather hold on to him until the summer.
