Chelsea interested in signing 6 ft 4 in Championship defensive rock

The London giants are ahead of Premier League rivals Man United and Arsenal in the battle to sign Stoke City starlet Nathan Collins, according to reports. Ireland international is regarded as one of the most talented and promising footballers outside of the Premier League.

Nathan made his first-team debut at the start of the campaign and has gone on to feature 12 times for the Potters, who are currently 17th in the Championship. Red Devils expressed interest in signing Collins last year, but he ended up signing a new deal at Stoke City as Man United stalled over launching a move.

Red Devils are still monitoring the 18-year-old centre-back’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window, while Gunners have scouted the defender regularly this term. But Blues are showing ‘strong interest’ in the Irish defender and are currently at the front of the queue to secure his signature.

It is claimed several Premier League clubs believe Nathan has the physical attributes to compete at the highest level despite his inexperience. Collins was named in Mick McCarthy’s Ireland squad last summer but is yet to feature for his country. Frank Lampard wants to strengthen the back-line during the summer transfer window.

Blues look set for a spending spree this summer if the covid crisis settles down and Frank Sinclair says his ex-club need to bolster in two areas. ‘There are two obvious positions in which Blues need to improve their squad left-back and a striker, Tammy Abraham has been excellent, but he has had to carry the baton on his own all season.’
