Chelsea join the race to sign €25m-rated La Liga defender
The London giants are reportedly poised to make a move for Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon after Leicester City demanded a world record fee for Ben Chilwell. Spain international enjoyed an impressive campaign on loan at Sevilla from the Los Blancos and was named La Liga’s best left-back.
Then Reguilon is a rising star and Everton have already tried to lure the defender to England. Carlo Ancelotti’s side bid £18m for Sergio last week, but the Blues are ready to trump that bid. Chelsea boss has made signing a left-back a top priority this summer, but the London giants have struggled to land his top target, Ben Chilwell.
Foxes want over £80m for the English defender, more than what Man United paid for Harry Maguire a year ago. Harry is the world’s most expensive defender and Blues have already forked out a combined £90m on Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
The 23-year-old defender is highly regarded at Bernabeu, but the Los Blancos already have a wealth of options in his place. The Spanish left-back is expected to be one of the footballers earmarked for sale so Real can balance their books. Blues are expected to continue spending as Frank aims to completely revamp his squad this summer.
Bayern Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz has also been linked, while Blues boss also wants a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga who was dropped for the final PL match and the FA Cup final.
The Spanish defender broke through into the Los Blancos first-team under Lopetegui, who is now his manager at Sevilla too. If he were to move to Chelsea this summer, Sergio would join Marcos Alonso as another Los Blancos academy graduate at the club.
