Chelsea keen on signing 21-year-old Germany international
Kai Havertz is keen on joining Blues this summer and does not want to remain in Germany for another campaign, according to reports. Germany international is one of Europe’s most in-demand youngsters as he has attracted interest from Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Having already secured deals for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Ajax’s attacker Hakim Ziyech, Blues are keen to bolster even more and have positioned themselves in the race for Kai. Havertz’s representatives are fully aware of Blues interest in completing a deal this summer.
And a move to London club ‘appeals’ to the 21-year-old playmaker, with Chelsea ‘leading the race’ to sign the attacker from Bundesliga giants. The report also claims that the German playmaker is looking to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, while Bavarians are not prepared to spend big on the playmaker this year.
Bayer Leverkusen have initially demanded over €100m for Kai, while reports claim that Blues are £20m apart in their valuation of the playmaker. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen’s former CEO, Reiner Calmund, believes the German club will stick to their €100m asking price for Kai.
‘Havertz scores goals with his left foot, right foot and his head. That is an exceptional quality to have. He is also versatile, fit, technically strong and fast. He is an exceptional talent,’ Calmund said.
‘The two Bayer managing directors Fernando Carro and Rudi Voller, like the supervisory board chairman Werner Wenning, have committed themselves to €100m as the basis for negotiations. The three Bayer bosses will not move significantly away from this amount.’
