Chelsea keep a close eye on 22-year-old Serie A centre-forward
Lautaro Martinez’s agent has confirmed he is yet to hold negotiations with rival teams over a summer transfer move for the centre-forward. Blues, Real Madrid and Blaugrana are all interested in signing Argentina international, who scored 19 goals in 32 games before the 2019-20 campaign was suspended due to the coronavirus crisis.
Lautaro has flourished at San Siro since signing from Racing in 2018 and has also netted eight goals in 13 games for Argentina. Asked about the speculation surrounding Lautaro, agent Alberto Yaque said: ‘His constant growth makes the best clubs in the world notice him and have that concept.
‘Hopefully, Lautaro will be rewarded for his effort. We have chatted with many people, but nothing more. ‘For now, those who call me are not directly employed by the team. There is nothing formal or serious. It is something dreamed of being the footballer in the market. Lautaro is not expecting anything, all he wants is to play and score goals.’
Last month, former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino described his compatriot the 22-year-old striker as ‘one of the best centre-forwards in the world’. ‘Martinez is one of the best strikers in the world,’ Pochettino said. ‘It’s not only for what Lautaro does now, but for what his potential means going forward.
If you start looking at hit-men for the big teams, clearly his name has to be in there.’ Blues signed Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid and Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund recently. Chelsea also added Hakim Ziyech from Ajax during the winter transfer window.
