Chelsea keep a close eye on £45m-rated Croatia international

London club in advanced talks with Barcelona footballer Ivan Rakitic. Blues are planning to make a bid during the summer transfer window. Chelsea have problems in the midfield as Cesc Fabregas moved to Monaco, Mateo Kovacic will return to Madrid after the loan spell, Danny Drinkwater and Ruben Loftus-Cheek linked with several clubs and their back-up are necessary.

Croatia international is the perfect option in this situation as he has a fantastic campaign and proves his worth one more time. It will be difficult to sign him as Man United and Bayern Munich also preparing to make an offer in July when the transfer window opens again.

There will be a real battle for the player, and his price could increase and become much more. Catalan club signed Frenkie de Jong, Arturo Vidal, Arthur Melo and there are too many midfielders. Rakitic wants to get a regular place in starting line-up and set to listen to offers from the big clubs.

He joined the UCL giants from Sevilla in 2014 with the €18m deal and became a key figure for the club. In this season, Ivan already played 41 matches, scored five goals and made eight assists in all competition. He is a regular member of the national team and also helped them to win the silver medals in the 2018 World Cup which is already a significant achievement for the footballer.

The 31-year-old midfielder has contracted with the Blaugrana until 2021, and his release clause is around €50m. Blues also linked with Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski and Sporting star Bruno Fernandes.
