Chelsea keep a close eye one €45m-rated French defensive rock
Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti has reportedly decided to seal a transfer to the PL, with Man United and Chelsea among his suitors. The 26-year-old defender has been a solid performer in his time at the Catalan club, though he’s also had the occasional fitness problems that have seen him fall down the pecking order.
This has led Samuel to consider his options and move to a club that can guarantee him more first-team football, with PL his preferred destination. It stays to be seen where Umtiti will finally settle on, but both Red Devils and Blues both need a defender signing so could surely offer him the game time he craves.
At Theatre of Dreams, it’s been a poor start to the campaign for a variety of reasons, but it’s fair to say many will have expected more of an impact from summer signing Harry Maguire. The former Leicester City centre-back looked a quality purchase to help Man United tighten up at the back-line, but he’s yet to hit top form.
Victor Lindelof, meanwhile, is perhaps not an ideal solution to teammate Harry in the long-term, with France international surely an upgrade when he’s on the form. Blues are also not looking at all convincing at the defence at the moment, with some poor defensive play today leading them to lose 3-1 to Toffees.
The French centre-back could surely be a superior option to Kurt Zouma or Andreas Christensen, while even talented youngster Fikayo Tomori is perhaps starting to show that he’s not ready to be a regular starter.
