Chelsea keeping tabs with €35m-rated Ligue 1 right-back
London club are said to be eyeing up a winter move for Nice right-back Youcef Atal should their transfer ban be lifted by then. Chelsea are currently undergoing a transfer ban that meant they can’t sign any footballers until next year, however, it looks like the Blues are optimistic regarding their potential to add footballers in the winter window.
London club are hoping to have their transfer ban cut short, meaning that they’ll be able to buy footballers in the winter transfer window, with Chelsea appeal still yet to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with the Blues confident they’ll be able to add footballers in a few months.
And despite this, London club are in for Algeria international in January should their ban be lifted, something which comes amid the £35m-rated right-back being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for some time now. So far this campaign, it’s been clear to see that Chelsea’ weak spot in their starting XI is at right-back.
Cesar Azpilicueta struggling to adapt to life at full-back and it looks like the Blues are fully aware of this if their pursuit of Youcef is anything to go off. Atal has a decent campaign for Nice last year, with the defender bagging six goals and one assist in 29 Ligue 1 matches.
The 23-year-old right-back has been known to be able to play at all of right back, right midfield and right-wing, versatility that could come in handy for Frank Lampard should the Algerian defender end up moving to Stamford Bridge in winter.
