Chelsea leading race to sign €65m-rated Serbia international
Blues have opened negotiations with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s representatives over the midfielder moving to London club this summer, according to reports. The 25-year-old midfielder has long been linked with a switch to the Premier League, with Red Devils and Spurs also credited with an interest.
Lazio have so far refused to budge on their £80m asking price, but the Blues are speaking to Sergej’s team about a move. Claude Makelele is involved in the discussions, advising Chelsea, but the London club will face competition from PSG.
The Parisians have made an offer of £54m for Sergej, although PSG are unwilling to increase their offer. Blues have spent big this summer having already signed Ajax forward Hakim Ziyech and RB Leipzig centre-forward Timo Werner for a combined 87m.
Chelsea manager is keen to continue the spending spree and is reportedly targeting Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell and West Ham United star Declan Rice. Serbia international is 25 years old and plays in the middle of the park, chipping in with six goals and five assists this campaign.
The Serbian midfielder has been a leading figure in a remarkable campaign for Serie A giants, where they have launched a title challenge to long-standing champions Bianconeri. Lazio are currently second in Serie A, four points behind Old Lady with nine matches left to play.
Bianconeri’s 3-1 victory over Genoa kept Lazio at bay, with goals from Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo and Douglas Costa keeping the reigning champions on course for their ninth straight title.
