Chelsea leading the race to sign No.9 Uruguayan centre-forward
Edinson Cavani has now decided to remain at Paris Saint-Germain for the rest of the campaign, according to reports. Uruguay international had his heart ready on a transfer to Atletico Madrid, but talks between the footballer, his club and the Los Rojiblancos have broken down only hours before the deadline.
The winter transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Friday and Edinson will stay at PSG this month. Chelsea and Man United were credited with an interest in the striker, with the Blues reportedly offering to take the goalscorer on loan after Frank Lampard made him one of his top targets.
La Liga giants thought they had won the race for Cavani, but demands from the centre-forward’s agent forced the Spanish club to pull out of the deal. A switch to Atletico Madrid now appears to be dead in the water, as Yannick Carrasco is in line for a return to his former club.
The news will come as a boost to Blues, who will continue to keep tabs on Cavani. Cavani will decide on his next club in the summer and Blues are tipped to be one of the sides who will compete for his deal. Edinson can add on a free transfer in the summer and is eager to leave PSG after falling down the pecking order this campaign.
London club will be disappointed to miss out on the Uruguayan centre-forward this month, and it seems as though winter is ready to be a frustrating window for the London club. Lampard was desperate to sign a striker or attacking player, but the Blues have been unable to deliver for their coach.
