Chelsea manager provides injury update on €30-year-old midfielder
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has suffered a further injury setback and is ‘no closer’ to being fit, according to Blues manager Frank Lampard. The 23-year-old midfielder hasn’t featured under his new coach since Frank’s come back to Chelsea, having ruptured his Achilles tendon in May.
And frustratingly for Lampard and Ruben, there is no set return date for the academy graduate. ‘He has had a few setbacks over the last couple months,’ English boss said after Blues 2-1 victory against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
‘Ruben hasn’t had a new one, but it is not flying along as much as we would want and it is not for want of trying by everybody, including Loftus-Cheek himself. ‘There is nothing worse than being injured, but for now, we are no closer to him being fit.’
Goals from Abraham and Mount were enough to sink Villans in what was a fantastic performance from the London club. However, Lampard is still expecting more from his side, who are six points clear of fifth-placed Wolverhampton.
‘I am happy, but I want more,’ Frank added. ‘We have had a pretty great start because most people probably expected us otherwise. ‘But I want more all the time, and I think that the last week has been an excellent example of that for Chelsea.
‘For me and for us, I saw us go to Man City and trade with them like a big club who was in and around that level. ‘Then I saw us play with West Ham United and not have that, and you are going to lose games in the PL.’
