Chelsea manager provides injury update on €60m-rated attacker
Chelsea boss is growing increasingly concerned by the seriousness of the injury which has ruled Christian Pulisic out of Blues last six games. The 21-year-old winger hasn’t featured since the draw at Brighton, but his coach had hoped that a two-week winter break would provide the attacker with the chance to recover from an Achilles strain.
Frank Lampard had hoped Christian would be in contention to feature in Monday’s clash against top-four rivals Man United at Stamford Bridge, but that appears to be an increasingly remote possibility.
Pulisic endured a difficult start to his Premier League career, starting on the bench more often than not, but appeared to have won Frank’s trust following his hat-trick in a 4-2 win at Burnley in October. Three goals in his next six games followed, but his form deteriorated after that and injury has now further disrupted his campaign.
The English manager has been boosted by the come back to form and fitness of Callum Hudson-Odoi, but the London club coach had hoped America international was on course to come back and boost his attacking options ahead of Red Devils visit to west London.
London club were hammered 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the campaign but have since opened up a six-point gap between themselves and the Norwegian manager’s inconsistent side.
Sheffield United are currently Blues nearest rivals for the final Champions League qualifying place, and the Blades will leapfrog Chelsea ahead of Monday’s heavyweight showdown if they beat struggling Brighton at home, albeit having played two matches more.
