Chelsea planning shock move for €70m-rated Ligue 1 centre-forward

Mauro Icardi is a footballer that often finds his name in the news. From captaincy controversy to transfer rumours, Argentina international’s career has been quite the rollercoaster over the last eighteen months. It had seemed as though Mauro had settled down though, finding his feet with the Parisians.

Icardi joined the Ligue 1 giants on loan at the start of the campaign, a place where he has managed to register twenty goals across all tournaments. The 27-year-old centre-forward’s stint with the French giants has seemingly been cut short though as his loan deal has been scrapped.

The news comes after his wife, Wanda Icardi, informed the club’s Sporting Director that Argentine striker would be returning to Serie A in the summer. London club that could appeal to Mauro is Chelsea, who are reportedly in the market for a new centre-forward.

Blues were pursuing Moussa Dembele earlier in the month, so they could also monitor this new reported situation. Frank Lampard wants to bolster his attacking options for next campaign, as much of his side’s goalscoring responsibilities have fallen on 22-year-old Tammy Abraham.

Although England international has impressed, the London giants require extra firepower to compete on all fronts, mainly if they are in the Champions League again in their next season.

Mauro seems to be an ideal fit on paper too, as he is experienced in operating as the lone striker his previous clubs. We know that London club like to deploy a three-person midfield, leaving room for just one up-top, so Icardi would be occupying a similar role to what he has played in before.
