Chelsea preparing to sell €20m-rated striker during the summer
London club have reportedly set a £5m asking price for ‘frustrated’ centre-forward Olivier Giroud ahead of the winter transfer window. France international made a controversial move to Stamford Bridge last year after spending six campaigns at the Emirates and helping Arsenal win three FA Cups.
While Olivier has picked up another FA Cup medal and won the Europa League at Chelsea, the striker has endured a frustrating spell at Chelsea. The 33-year-old centre-forward has been forced to play back-up to in-form Tammy Abraham this season, with the London club coach Frank Lampard starting Giroud just once in the Premier League.
As a result, the striker has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Chelsea, with the likes of Inter Milan and Crystal Palace reportedly interested in striking a deal with the Blues. The French striker is ‘frustrated’ by the situation at London club and open to leaving the Blues, who will demand a £5m fee to sanction his departure.
Giroud’s Chelsea rival Abraham netted his tenth goal of the campaign on the weekend as Lampard’s side beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at home. It was Chelsea’s sixth successive Premier League victory, and Frank said: ‘We certainly deserved to win the match, but it was frustrating in a way because we had chances but not enough clear-cut ones.’
Chelsea, who are currently third in the Premier League, face defending champions Man City after the international break. London club signed Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund and Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid recently. Blues are unable to sign new footballers until next summer due to a transfer ban.
