Chelsea renewed negotiations with No.9 Ligue 1 centre-forward

There are ‘many clubs interested’ in the transfer of Chelsea target Edinson Cavani, the PSG centre-forward’s mother has confirmed. Uruguay international was close to a move to Atletico Madrid in winter despite interest from Chelsea, but a deal collapsed with the centre-forward remaining with the Parisians.

Edinson is available on a free transfer in the summer, however, and will leave the Parc des Princes. Frank Lampard is a known admirer of Cavani but his mother, Berta Gomez, suggested his preference is a move to Spain, which could see a move to Atletico Madrid back on the cards. Frank Lampard wants to bolster the front-line during the summer.

‘Fortunately today, there are many clubs interested in signing Cavani. He still does not know where he will play, he has three months left in Paris,’ Gomez said. ‘We have to think carefully. At the moment, he has no intention of returning to Uruguay, he is planning to continue in Europe and would like to go to Spain.’

Frank Lampard said of Blues rumoured interest in the 33-year-old centre-forward in January: ‘He’s a great player. I played against him, and I always loved his mentality and his attitude, and obviously, his goalscoring record speaks for itself. I’m not aware of what the situation is, so we’ll see.’

Chelsea heavily linked with Napoli striker Dries Mertens, Lyon centre-forward Moussa Dembele, Bayern playmaker Philippe Coutinho, Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell, Porto left-back Alex Telles, Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake and Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
