Chelsea set to rival European giants in hunt for No.4 World-class centre-back
Chelsea are reportedly set to fight Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain for the services of Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld at the end of the term.
The Dutchman joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015 after an intense loan spell with Southampton during the 2014-15 season.
The ex-Ajax youngster has been one of the most consistent centre-halves in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons, but damages have limited him to just 10 Premier League appearances this season.
Alderweireld’s deal with Tottenham will end at the end of next campaign, and it is believed that Spurs have decided to pull the plug on contract negotiations as they are not willing to meet Alderweireld’s ‘excessive wage demands’, which are supposed to stand at £180,000 a week.
Man United and PSG have both been credited with an interest, however, according to The Mirror, Chelsea have now joined the hunt as the West Londoners look to boost their defence in this summer’s transfer window.
The defender could be available for £25m next summer due to a release clause that will come into impact as long as a transfer is made 14 days before the end of the window.
