Crystal Palace still want to sign £90,000-a-week Chelsea centre-forward
Crystal Palace want to bring Chelsea centre-forward Michy Batshuayi back to Selhurst Park when the transfer market reopens in 2020. Belgium international spent the second half of the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Selhurst Park and impressed for Roy Hodgson’s side, scoring five goals in 11 Premier League matches.
Michy came back to Stamford Bridge in the summer, but he has found first-team chances hard to come by at the start of the new campaign, with English coach using Tammy Abraham as his first-choice striker. Crystal Palace signed Jordan Ayew from Swansea, James McCarthy from Everton and Gary Cahill from Chelsea this summer.
Batshuayi has been identified as a winter transfer target by a fellow London club, with Roy eager to re-sign a former charge to strengthen his front-line. Eagles are hoping to capitalise on 26-year-old centre-forward’s contract situation, with his existing contract at Chelsea set to expire in 2021.
The longer Belgian striker spends on the sidelines, the more his market value will drop, and Blues might be tempted to cash in before he becomes a free agent. Michy has proven he can score goals in the Premier League when playing week in week out, but at the moment, there is no chance of him knocking Tammy out of the Blues line up.
Abraham has netted eight goals in eight games this term, emerging as one of English football’s brightest youngsters. World Cup winner Olivier Giroud is also vying for a spot in Frank Lampard’s set up, which means Batshuayi’s contribution may end up being restricted to cup competitions as the year progresses.
